Community Councils in Scotland were first formed during the mid to late 1970s and Carmunnock village has had its own since that time. Our Community Council activities are governed by the Scottish Government through Glasgow City Council as decreed in its scheme for the Establishment of Community Council and by the Community Councils' Constitution. Your Community Council consists of :

8 elected members of the community and 3 nominated members from our Church, our Senior Citizens and The Preservation Society.

Chairperson       Mr Ken McCready    Councillors:  Mr Tom Morton     Mr Jim McCreadie     Mrs Marion Begg

Treasurer           Mr Lindsay Ogilivy                       Mr Stewart Roy    Mr John McArthur     Mr Angus McDonald

Secretary          Mrs Tracy Crawford                     Mrs Elspeth Hamilton

Elections and re-nominations take place every two years and will be taking place again this September. To register your interest why not contact us at info@carmunnock.co.uk or contact our Chairman on 0141 644 1378. Alternatively if you keep a watch out for our Autumn newsletter coming through your door shortly, you will be able to express your interest that way.

The main function of your Community Council is that of determining and voicing (mainly through Glasgow City Council) the views of Carmunnock residents on matters particular to the village, although we do involve ourselves in more general matters from time to time. We are especially active and vigilant regarding applications made to the City Council for planning permission to build or make changes to property within our boundaries.

The Community Council meets usually on the first Monday of each month, in the Castlemilk Hall and the public are always welcome to attend. Additionally an Annual General Meeting is held in October and another Public Meeting is held in April and residents are always encouraged to come along and let their views be known. The minutes of these monthly meetings are always posted in the window notice board of the Castlemilk Hall  and will also be available shortly through this website.

There are also two newsletters per year delivered to every household prior to each of the above open meetings.
